Kalahari Reserve

This huge desert (larger than Spain in size) occupies 85% of the country, being more dry and arid as we penetrate to the south.

It was constituted as a reserve in 1961 and not as a national park since it allowed the khoisans inside presence, but after the discovery of diamond mines in the reserve in the 1980s they were expelled. Today covers an extension of about 52000 square kms and inside live about 1500 khoisans. It is said that the black hair lions of the Kalahari are the biggest of Africa.
